Mother and child escape kitchen fire
A mother and her young child were forced to flee their burning
home in Telford today after a kitchen appliance caught fire.
Neither was hurt in the fire.
However firefighters said it was unlikely they would be able
to return to the house in Summer Crescent, Wrockwardine Wood,
unless it was totally refurbished.
Sub officer Steve Ostridge said the mother was alerted to the
fire by a smoke detector.
She grabbed her child and ran out of the building and called
the fire service at around 12.30pm, he said.
Mr Ostridge said due to the severity of the fire and the fact
all the doors had been open, every part of the semi-detached
building had been damaged by smoke.
He said the woman was very upset and he explained firefighters
were called out to a washing machine fire, but it was believed
the fire had actually started in the tumble dryer.
We dont know what the exact cause of it was because
the tumble dryer was completely destroyed, he said.
