Dryer fire
A dryer was destroyed Wednesday in a fire at Ash Street Laundrymat
at 503 E. Ash St., the Goldsboro Fire Department reported.
The owner, Randy Johnson, put the fire out by the time firefighters
arrived within three minutes of the 9:21 a.m. call. The dryer
was valued at $3,500.
"Someone was drying clothes, and the clothes caught fire,"
said Fire Lt. Frank Sasser. Johnson "said it looked like
nylon or plastic in the dryer caused the fire."
Sixteen firefighters responded with three engines, a ladder
and a command car. They pulled the clothes from the dryer, drenched
them, ventilated the building and helped clean up.
